DESCRIPTION: This Softpaq creates a DOS-bootable, diskette-based utility
for the Professional Workstation models listed above. The utility helps identify
unsupported SDRAM DIMMs or memory that does not meet Compaq specifications.
HOW TO USE:
1. Download the SoftPaq to an empty directory on your hard drive and
change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is SP12374.EXE.
2. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file to make a bootable
DIMM diskette:
SP12374 [ENTER].
3. Insert the diskette in a Professional Workstation AP400 or AP500 and restart
the system.
4. After the system restarts the utility will automatically run and display
the result of each SDRAM DIMM identified with Compaq specifications.
The results will also be saved to the text file SPDERRCK.LOG.
5. If the utility identifies an SDRAM DIMM as complying to Compaq specifications,
then the SPD Data (Serial Presence Detect Data) is in conformance
with an approved Compaq SDRAM device supported in the AP400 and AP500. If you
are experiencing problems with your system, please take the normal service
actions, such as running Compaq diagnostics or contacting your service provider.
6. If the utility identifies an SDRAM DIMM as not complying with Compaq specifications,
this is not necessarily bad but is an indication that further investigation
may be needed. Further investigation may include running PC Diagnostics
and physically examining the DIMM for the correct part number.
